Some of them are very boring. They may be doing well but the crowds I see at their openings are boring conservative rich folk and the work I see is awful. It’s just blank canvases as I used to complainso much about in my blogs from a few years ago. Sometime I’m going to write a blog about blank canvases. It really brings me down to see that work that I’m not fond of is doing well in the art world these days.
And there are some galleries I come across that are not only boring but also depressing. They are in rundown alleyways with not so interesting art on the walls with only around 5 people attending their openings that consist of just street hipsters drinking their sorrows away.
As I said before, I know there are tons of galleries out there that I don’t know about. Next time I attend the Affordable Art Fair, I’m going to take notes on where all those galleries are located since most of them had amazing works.
As an artist it’s not just galleries I pay attention to for inspiration but also graphic design, computer art, advertising, illustration, clothing and accessory designs, lighting design and photography.
