At the Paul Kolker Gallery is the show “Halftones and Ishidots…The New Abstract!” which will be up until June 27th West 25th St. It seems that color theory, science, and comparison are the main theme here. The show consists of abstract paintings with dots of different colors and sizes all placed together over light and dark backgrounds.
It was interesting to see the color contrast of each piece, but what I paid the most attention to is the construction of each one. I loved how smooth and sharp the edges around each circle were, not an easy technique to accomplish. You’ll notice a lot of sharp pointed edges (Dynamism) in some of my work, and when I was in art school my professor Jack Whitten use to point that out and repeat the word “dynamism” to me over and over again.
